A short while ago, I was given a whole host of skin care goodies from Clarins Men. I really like what Clarins have done with their branding of late and have even gone the extra mile to beef up their men’s skin care range, by sponsoring a French Top 14 rugby team. Now, if that doesn’t put some extra ‘grrrr’ in grooming, I honestly don’t know what will.

After doing a little research on what Clarins Men have to offer, I would certainly have to say that they’ve played it extremely safe in the type of products they have selected to be included in their range. It’s a fairly standard collection, consisting of the likes of shaving cream, aftershave balm and a facial moisturiser, but with the level of detail they put into their marketing and branding, i’m not surprised that the brand has grown to become a forcefield in the world of male skin care over the past five years or so.

One product that stood out from the rest, which is what I’ll be reviewing today is the Clarins Men Exfoliating Facial Cleanser. What first drew me to this product was that it looked brutally masculine and with its blue exfoliating beads clearly visible through its transparent tube, I could see that they were of the right concentration to give my skin a really good exfoliation. There’s nothing worse than buying a beaded face scrub and hardly being able to feel its exfoliating beads, even after plastering it all over your face.

I really liked that during cleansing, the beads felt comfortable on my skin and didn’t scratch at all. This product’s circular beads are embedded within a really creamy facial cleanser that lathers up really nicely on the skin. It’s extremely easy to disperse a healthy amount of product around the face, but be careful not to get it near your eyes!

I tend to judge a product both on how enjoyable it is to use at the time of application and the long term effects it has on my skin. For the former, the only negative I could find was that after it was rinsed off, it did leave my skin feeling quite dry and un-lubricated. Whether or not this is its intention, I don’t know, but this part of the process wasn’t best comfortable.

However gents, it’s not all doom and gloom because Clarins Men’s Exfoliating Cleanser did leave my skin feeling squeaky clean and matte. After stepping out of my shower and drying off and with a dab of facial moisturiser and eye cream applied after, I’m glad to say my skin returned to a nice natural moisture equilibrium.

I used this men’s face product for about two weeks and during that time, it did help tackle my dull and dark complexion. With daily use, this cleanser definitely brought about extra energy to my skin and the odd blemish I was fighting cleared up nicely too!

Another thing I really liked about this Exfoliating Cleanser is that it was very powerful in removing other products from my skin and it had a really nice firming action. Before bed, I found myself washing with this product, before pat drying my face and applying a little night and eye cream. When I woke in the morning, my skin still felt clean and fresh, which is something of a rarity for me, as usually it would feel greasy and in desperate need of a wash, despite only having a normal skin type.

Overall, I was very impressed with Clarins Men’s Exfoliating Facial Cleanser and if you have normal, oily or combination skin, it is a definite winner in my book. The packaging looks nice and masculine too and you get a fair amount of product for around the £18 mark. Another skin care essential well worth adding to your wash bag.
